Musings (10/22)
Thank You!
The new Riddleblog is one year old (as of yesterday)! Thanks to all of you regular readers! I’ve nearly finished transferring stuff from the old Riddleblog to the new. Once that’s done, the old blog will go the way of all flesh.
Must Listen!
Bob Godfrey on "What's Going On Right Now?" This is the introductory session from Dr. Godfrey’s new series taught in his regular adult Sunday school class at the Escondido URC. Thanks to Abounding Grace Radio for making it available. Hopefully, other sessions will follow—several hints were dropped at what is coming next, and sure whet my appetite for more. Dr. Godfrey is a first-rate historian and perhaps the wisest man I know.
Some of My Favorite Podcasts:
Some of you have asked me if I listen to podcasts, and if so, which ones. I do and here’s a few of my favorites:
Mike Duncan's Revolutions: Duncan is a great story teller and I’ve especially enjoyed his series on the English Civil War. The Russian Revolution is up next.
The Age of Napoleon: Napoleon’s fingerprints are still all over Europe. One of history’s greatest generals and strategists. Napoleon’s fascinating and the host, E.M. Rummage, does a great job telling his story.
Pax Britannica: Lots of great background here to the English Civil War and the WCF, including fascinating discussions of church discipline and the Solemn League and Covenant.
When Diplomacy Fails: Yes, I made it through the 100+ episodes on the Treaty of Versailles and loved every minute of it. A good couple of episodes on Bismarck too.
Criminal: “Hi, I’m Phoebe!” Consistently good if you like true crime and a focus upon unusual cases. Lots of irony here.
The Dispatch Podcast: A center-right weekly discussion of current news featuring Steve Hayes, David French, Sarah Isgur, and Jonah Goldberg. Thoughtful political discussion for a change.
The Remnant: Jonah Goldberg’s bi-weekly podcast. Jonah is a hoot and his guests (most of the time) are the people I want to hear from.
Of course, there’s Dan Carlin, Scott Clark’s Heidelcast, the White Horse Inn, and several others, but those above are also in my usual Spotify rotation.
If you have any favorites of similar interest, let me know in the Comments section below (but please avoid the usual political chatter).
